Auditions Funny Money
~ a great farce by one of the masters!
Written by Ray Cooney
Directed by Donna Corbett
MAY 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 31 and JUNE 1 2019
AUDITIONS MARCH 24 and MARCH 25 AT 7 PM QP Theater
A simple birthday dinner of friends turns into a night of confusion and misdirection with a number of briefcases that all look the same but contain very different items! And everyone wants just one of them including “Mr. Brerfcurse,” who puts this frenetic farce into high gear!
Cast of Characters: Note the ages of the characters are all flexible but the friends (Jean, Henry, Betty & Vic), need to look like/read like they share the same decade for their birthdays! We will be using British accents.
Jean Perkins: A pretty woman who doesn’t normally drink, but is pretty physically funny when she does!
Henry Perkins: An ordinary man who is thrilled when he thinks his ship (or briefcase of money) has come in! The Playwright himself originated the role of Henry as well as directed the first production in 1994.
Betty Johnson: A buxom and cheerful woman who is clearly up for adventure and fun – wherever it may take her!
Vic Johnson: A brash man with feet of clay is how Cooney describes him. I would add he is a man who goes with the flow, always looking out for himself!
Davenport: A man/ with a knowing glint in his eye – a con man.
Bill: London Taxi driver with some verve and dreams!
Slater: A Police Sargent – solicitous and kind – until provoked. Can be either female or mail.
A Passer-by: An intimidating – maybe large man – “Mr. Brerfcurse.”
