2008 Scholarship

Every season the Quannapowitt Players offers a scholarship of $2000 to a student interested in pursing a major in the theater arts.

To be eligible, a student must be graduating in 2008 from an area high school that is contiguous to Reading and Wakefield. This is to pay tribute to the founders of QP who came from these two towns. This includes students from Wakefield, Reading, Melrose, Saugus, Lynnfield, Stoneham, Woburn, Wilmington and North Reading.

The student must have been accepted by an advanced school or college for the September 2008 semester, with a concentration in acting, directing, technical production, musical theater and/or theater education.

2007 Scholarship Winner

Daniel Hanson from Reading High School received the 2007 Quannapowitt Players Scholarship for $2600 which was given in memory of long-time QP member Ray Sipoloa. Ray was a retired music teacher in the Wakefield School system who directed many shows in Melrose and Reading over the years.

QP gives a scholarship each year to deserving student graduating from an area high school that is contiguous to Reading and Wakefield, as QP was founded by players from these two towns 69 years ago. The student must have strong academic credits as well as theatrical, and must have been accepted by an advanced school or college to pursue a major in the theater arts which can include acting, technical production, musical theater or theater education.

QP was proud to present the scholarship to Daniel Hanson at the final production of QP's season. Daniel more than exceeded the scholastic and theatrical requirements for this scholarship. He has performed, directed and has been Treasurer of the Reading High School Drama Club. Daniel was inducted into the National Honor Society and is in the Who's Who of American High School Students. He has been a member of the Marching and Concert Band all through High School, a member of High School Chorus, Badminton Club and is Umpire for Reading Youth Baseball. We know his leadership and drive will make him successful as he continues his education in the Media Production program at Emerson College where he will be taking classes in writing for film and television. His goal is to write screenplays and direct movies.
