As QP looks forward to its 70th season, we also are looking for help to accomplish our dream of providing Handicap Facility access to our patrons and members.

We have looked at many alternatives and we have a plan. We have been granted a variance for an addition in the back of the current building that would put handicap facilities on the same level as the front lobby, extend the lobby, and provide better egress from the basement without impacting parking. The estimated construction costs are $200,000. Then there are fees to the architect, as well as costs for the required engineering analysis and any requirements from the town.

The State of Massachusetts has approved a new initiative this year that may help QP realize its dream. The Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund's goal is to support the development of cultural facilities in Massachusetts and create economic stimulus. www.masscultrualfacilities.org

Non-profit organizations in Massachusetts can submit a proposal for consideration by 15MAR07. If a proposal is accepted the fund will provide matching grants for cash contributions for the repair, rehabilitation or renovation of existing facilities. Organizations receiving grants will have up to 24 months to raise matching funds.

QP will honor all donations fo $1000 or above with the names of donors on a plaque in our new lobby area leading to the new Handicap Facilities. All contributions will be acknowledged in our yearly program because we want to express our appreication and showcase your generous donation!

The QP Playhouse is a unique building with a long history in the town of Reading, first as a schoolhouse and now a community theater. In 1854 the school committee in Reading reported "There has been a beautiful school-house erected in this district this past season . sufficient to seat 80 scholars. The house is very neat in its appearance . with convenient outhouses. We understand that the cost . was about twenty-six or twenty-seven hundred dollars." * Technology and costs have changed but the basics have not!

The small group of local players from the Wakefield YMCA who started QP in 1938 could not have foreseen where the group would be in 69 years, but we know their goal is our goal today, to continue for at least another 69 years with your support!
