Member Spotlight – QP’s Dogs

We are not referring to any QP production!  We are referring to a history of dogs we have grown to love, who have shared the QP stage whether we wanted them to or not over the last 30 years!

Some theaters have resident cats, and although we do have our share of field mice, QP only has neighborhood cats who visit once in a while! But QP has been lucky to have some of the most intelligent and sweetest dogs be part of our set building, lighting hangs and meetings. A couple have even had production cameos.

They have guarded doors as you try to bring in lumber so you need to step carefully to avoid stepping on their tail. They saunter over for scratch when you take a break as it is only fair if you are resting. They have their own water bowls at the playhouse.  They love to play and share your lunch!  They make you smile.

There was Andrew, David Low’s black poodle and cockerspaniel mix.  Andy was so well trained he would keep his nose next to the treat for what seemed hours before David would remember to say ok – and then he could take it!  He loved being with David.

Then there was Walter the Theater Dog.  Jon Sachs black labrador. Walter was Jon’s friend and photograhy subject in every kind of weather and light. Even with the cold white snow strikingly beautiful on his black coat of fur, you knew he was just tolerating standing there until Jon got the picture – because he loved Jon. And Walter was one of the nicest food mouchers ever. He would just stand there looking hungry. There wasn’t a meeting he didn’t find an easy mark!

Now we have Ceylon, Heather Gay’s loving rescued greyhound who has found his light on the QP stage.   A sweet disposition, with an uncanny ability to be right where you need to move the ladder!

Actors, human or not, come in all shapes, sizes and types.  All have a role to play on the stage. QP is happy to say some of the very best canine versions have graced the QP stage!
