Merriam-Webster defines the midlife crisis as: “A period of emotional turmoil in middle age characterized especially by a strong desire for change.” Is Becky Foster having a midlife crisis? She has a middling job with a boss who doesn’t appreciate her, a marriage missing its spark, and an adult son living in the basement. Change stumbles through the door of the car dealership where Becky works in the form of billionaire widower Walter Flood. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life. In a way that most plays wouldn’t dare, Becky’s New Car offers audiences the chance to ride shotgun with Becky on her exhilarating ride down the road not taken. Yes, Becky is most definitely having a midlife crisis.
